Atheists claim that faith is blind, subjective, and unverifiable. Missionary doctors Klaus-Dieter John and Martina John counter this assumption with their real-life experiences at Diospi Suyana. When pressure mounts and tension rises, the test laboratory of life reveals whether faith in the God of the Bible delivers what it promises.
Millions of people on five continents have heard about, read about, or seen Diospi Suyana over the past twenty years. Anyone who takes a closer look at the breathtaking development of this humanitarian project in Peru begins to suspect that trust in God rests on a solid foundation. And the accumulated evidence shows that while faith cannot be measured scientifically, it does produce impressive results in daily practice. Why shouldn’t God’s promises, on which the exciting story of Diospi Suyana is based, also be a reliable foundation for everyone’s life?
Diospi Suyana—We Trust in God
From a young age, Doctors Klaus-Dieter and Martina John longed to alleviate the suffering of forgotten peoples. This couple, along with other volunteers, founded the Diospi Suyana association in 2002. Its purpose is the long-term support of a modern missionary hospital and school in southern Peru.
The hospital has treated 618,000 impoverished patients. Since August 2016, Diospi Suyana has been developing a cultural program based on Christian principles and values, broadcast on twelve radio stations in the south of the country. In 2023, Diospi Suyana began holding annual five-day festivals for young people from different countries. The concerts and workshops have left a profound mark on thousands of participants.
The Peruvian Congress granted the Johns Peruvian citizenship. They have received medals of civic merit from the governments of Peru and Germany. Eleven presidents and/or first ladies have heard this story of faith. What is most relevant is not human effort, but the miracles of God.
Surgeon Dr. Klaus-Dieter John and his wife, pediatrician Dr. Martina John, gained international experience at Harvard, Yale, Johannesburg, and Berlin universities during their residencies. In 2003, they moved with their three small children to a remote mountain village in southern Peru to establish a modern hospital. What has been created there in the Andes, seemingly out of nothing, has fascinated people around the globe.
